Over the past several decades, Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations have been tightened, requiring much greater focus from the business community around health and safety. As a result, most businesses have developed a heightened awareness of occupational health and safety issues, and have increased their focus in areas of regulatory compliance.
The issue remains, however, that by focusing merely on compliance to regulatory requirements, most businesses have been unable to make a sustainable impact with regards to improving their safety performance. In addition, many fail to realize the attractive business case for solid occupational health and safety practices.
